the history
Listening to the story of how his parents met was one thing Desmond loved to do when he was a child. Young and naïve, he had loved hearing about their fated destiny, and how cruel life had been to keep them apart when his father had attended Hogwarts for the Triwizard Tournament. To Des, hearing how they didn’t truly meet at Hogwarts, he never would have thought that his parents would have met again. But being that they were destined for one another, obviously, he had accepted that they had not been ready to fall in love then, and would wait for the next point in the story when they did truly meet.
Vanessa would then go on to tell him about her disdain for the sport of Quidditch. She would explain how she reluctantly went with her father to social events… and that was where she met Viktor again. Amusing it was for Desmond to hear that at first she ignored the man that was to be his father. But it later it turned to fascination at his parents budding relationship. How two people could love one another so much… and yet… live so far away. He didn’t understand love… but the way Vanessa spoke of it… it had to be rare or hard to come by.
It was at the point in the story that Des would hunker down and cuddle up closer to his mother. She would run her fingers through his hair, and tell him that it was after four years of being together, that she realized… and she would pause. Smiling down at him, she then continued, telling him that she realized how much she loved Viktor, and wanted to marry him. And after telling him that, the two arranged to be married right away! That part of the story always seemed forced as she told it… but as she spoke of the arrival of his older brother Stefan, the thought escaped him and he waited eagerly for Vanessa to tell him about the day both him and his twin brother arrived.
Being born with a twin brother, Desmond couldn’t have had a better childhood. It was like having a best friend who lived with you and knew exactly what you were thinking, when you were thinking it. He had a built in playmate that would never leave him, and loved and adored the same things he did. Although he had other siblings, one even being just a year younger than him, his connection to them wasn’t as good or as close as it was with his twin.
The two of them would spend any free time they had playing games they randomly thought up. At one point, the two even tried communicating with one another by the means of a made up language. But shortly after, they gave up and went back to simply finishing each other’s sentences. They would do whatever they could to play pranks on and confuse Stefan and Fiona. But the two of them mostly spent time in their own little world.
Being taken to his father’s Quidditch games, Desmond quickly fell in love with the sport, much to his mother’s dismay. At first it was simply awe… amused by how the players moved. Later though, as his love for the sport grew, he would take any chance that he could to talk to his father about it. Rules, techniques, and when he would be allowed to have his first broom. With much begging and pleading, and coercing from his father, it was agreed that when he was ten he could go pick out his broom.
It was on his tenth birthday that Viktor took Desmond to pick out his first broom. It was such an exciting day for him, as he got to spend quality time with his father, which was something he couldn’t necessarily do on a daily basis with four other siblings. But it was his day to spend with his dad, and he took advantage of it. Although he had been limited to the choices of brooms he could get, his mother wanting him on something safe and sturdy, Des had settled for whatever Viktor had thought best for him. And the rest of the day was then spent learning how to fly… properly and safely.
That year was the year Desmond started to distinguish his own personality from his brother’s. Being so in love with flying and Quidditch, Des spent most of his time with his head in the sky, rather than playing games with his brother. Although he still had a strong connection and could still finish each other’s sentences, he had stopped being so dependent upon him and more independent.
Upon getting his Hogwarts letter and Drumstrang letter, Des put up a fight. Although he had known from the time he was a kid that he’d be going to Hogwarts just like Stefan had, and Fiona would, he had wanted to attend Drumstrang. He wanted to see the place where his father went, meet his teachers, see anything and everything that he had. He wanted the full experience. But even in trying to explain that to his parents, he was sent to bed with the proclamation that he’d be attending Hogwarts that September.
The first night at the school was a bit more than nerve wracking. Although he hadn’t wanted to attend Hogwarts, he was anxious and excited. He wanted to see what the big fuss was about, since Nik talked so fondly about it, and above all, he wanted to see which house he resided in. Supposedly Ravenclaw ran in the family, Vanessa being one and Nik being one… but Desmond didn’t think he belonged in the house meant for bookies. So when the old hat was placed on his head, he held his breath in anticipation. Would he be an ambitious Slytherin? A Courageous Gryffindor? Or… whatever Hufflepuffs were supposed to be. But the hat said the last thing he ever expected, Ravenclaw.
His first year at school was spent mostly on his studies and making friends. Upon going to Quidditch try outs, he was told by the captain that first years weren’t allowed, and to try again in a year or so. With his hopes dashed for making the house team, Des settled on the next best thing, commentating the games. He knew all about the sport, what better way than to fill his quidditchless weekends than with commentating on it? The lack of making the team also allowed for him to start what was only the beginning of a nearly perfect record in his classes. Without the distraction of sports he was able to concentrate more on his studies and other things that he wanted to accomplish. Though, he was advised by the Head Mistress that starting a dueling club in his first year would be a bad idea. So he let that slide by… more important things quickly taking over.
It was in his second year, when he returned to Quidditch try outs much to the captain’s dismay, that he made the team. Just like his father, he tried out for the position of Seeker, and was elated to find out he received that position. Even though he got what he wanted however, he refused to let his studies slip. Although he became the quintessential jock, his Quidditch more important to him than even meals, he was also very much the stereotype breaker, in it that he was what someone would define as a “nerd”. His grades never slipped, and it was a rare moment when someone would find him without a book in his hand.
The years up until his sixth were rather uneventful. He spent most of his time practicing or playing quidditch, studying, or hanging out with his friends and family. He had become rather popular with the ladies, and from that, his ego got quite the boosting, however, he never lost his family values and goals he set for himself. It was in his fifth year that Desmond was awarded the role of Prefect, something that was a new feat for the family. And from there it seemed like his list of extracurriculars began to grow. He was still the same person he always was… but now with a busier schedule than he could ever imagine. Working out was a top priority and a part of his daily routine, Quidditch practices, prefect duties, school work, and the addition of tutoring. With O.W.L.s on their way, it seemed that many students needed his help. Life was busy… but life was just the way he wanted it. With the added thrill of the occasional Quidditch match party… nothing else other than that. Which turned out to be a good thing, as partying too much landed his sister pregnant not knowing who the father was.
Desmond was enraged when he found this out, having become rather protective of his little sister as he grew older. Not only had she done something outlandishly stupid, but he hadn’t been around to see or help her out with the situation. In all honesty, he was one of the last people to know about it, being rewarded with the knowledge by his parents who wanted him to look out for her. He had failed at being a proper brother… failed at protecting her. And it killed him. Whatever the case was, he forgave her and decided to help her in any way possible, despite her lack of trust in him. Whether it be with confronting kids who talked about her behind her back, or be it with the baby when she was born, he would help her. But if he ever found out who the scum bag was who got his sister pregnant, he would knock the boy’s teeth out and make his life hell.
Though, that wasn’t to say his entire sixth year was a bust. He was ever the great sportsman, being named Captain at the beginning of the year, and leading the team to as many victories as possible. And his grades didn’t suffer, though his sleep schedule had once again been cut by an hour or so a night due to the addition of a small dueling club he had been itching to try since his first year, just on a trial basis that is. But most notably of the good things that happened to him during his sixth year was a girl. Although he was a ladies man, a regular prince charming, he had never been one to fall so hard for one person. But Jeanne Renard was a different story. They were in rival houses… but the hate between Ravenclaw and Slytherin was barely there. Not to mention the fact she was an atypical Slytherin. They seemed to be a good fit for one another too, despite the fact that her younger brother (a member of his team) had ceased all communication with him and did all but write him off as a friend. But that didn’t deter him. He was a good guy and was the type of guy any father or brother would want his daughter or sister to be with.
He put his all into their little relationship… and had figured it was going well. They hadn’t fought or anything! So, when Jeanne up and decided that she was going to break up with him right before summer vacation, he was more confused than ever. He couldn’t figure out where he had gone wrong, what he did or didn’t do, and still after months of trying to add the equation up, he couldn’t come to a viable answer. Jeanne Renard was the first person to have broken up with him… and it wasn’t and isn’t sitting well with him. Though, he could at least still have her as a friend.
Being that it is his seventh and final year, Desmond has made the decision of Quidditch to be his profession of choice. Wanting to follow in his father’s footsteps, he plans to do whatever it takes to get him there. Other than deciding his profession, he has planned to keep a closer eye on Fiona and make sure no one lays another hand on her. No one would hurt his baby sister again. With the promise from the Head Mistress that he could finally start his full-fledged dueling club, and still offering tutoring, Des is in for a busy hell of a year.
the appearance
Desmond Krum is well built boy. He, much like his father has a good balance between muscle and a thin stature. Although he used to be one of the awkward tall and lanky boys of his house, he has grown into his body. Through working out, and spending most of his time playing quidditch his body is mostly muscle and very little fat. But bulky is one word not described when talking about Des. He has broad shoulders, and a well toned chest, abdomen, and arms.
Unlike his father, Desmond likes to keep his hair long. A dark shade of brown, almost black, the meticulously combed tresses are about chin length, if not longer. Prideful of keeping it well groomed, it always has a glossy sheen to it and is quite soft to the touch. Long enough to be worn in a low ponytail, for quidditch games for working out, Desmond tends to pull it back as to keep it out of his eyes.
Tall, dark, and handsome like Viktor, most of Desmonds features are sharp and angled. However, with the influence of his mother’s genes, he doesn’t quite have the typical Bulgarian features. Having a more rounded chin, and a smaller and less pointed nose than his father, he was thankful. One thing stood true however, he had his father’s eyes and his unsightly bushy eyebrows. Although it isn’t unbecoming for a man to have bushy eyebrows, its one thing about his appearance that bothers him.
Other than that, his sense of style is that he doesn’t have one. Usually donned in either his quidditch uniform or his school uniform, Des hasn’t found much time to research style. Among the few things that he likes to wear are his athletic clothes, being shorts and a solid color t-shirt, khaki pants, dark jeans, and button down shirts. Although he has the occasion t-shirt, he tends to wear them more as sleep wear if anything.
the personality
Desmond, above all else, is a jock. He has spent most of his life doing something related to quidditch. Whether it was watching games, commentating, or playing… quidditch has been what he has dedicated his life to. He is meticulous about his workout schedule, and if he misses a session… you better believe he’ll get angry. Putting himself on a strict diet as well is another thing that adds to his dedication. Although almost every aspect of his life related back to quidditch in one way or another, he doesn’t act like a meathead.
Among other things that Des is dedicated to, his studies are next on the list. Being placed in Ravenclaw had astounded him, he never thought he’d be a bookie. That was until he started spending any free time not on the pitch or working out, in the library doing whatever research he could. Knowledge was something he thirsted for… craved. And among all of the subjects to pick from, Defense Against the Dark Arts had especially caught his eye. He has a bad habit of delving into a book and not coming out of it until it is finished, or he is forced to. One good thing that has come from his excessive studying is that if being a profession Quidditch player doesn’t work out, he could become almost anything he desired… except for a Herbologist.
Other than being extremely dedicated, Desmond is a very family oriented guy. Including his friends in the mixture, he loves to surround himself with people who he cares about. Mostly finding enjoyment in his twin’s company, as they had drifted apart through the years, he tried to make it a point to have weekly dinners with each of his siblings and closest friends. Any time he can possibly spend with them, he does. And if any of them needed something, he would give up whatever he had or whatever he was doing to be with them. Nothing could be more important to him than his friends and family.
Stemming from his love of family and friends, Desmond is very protective. If anything that is his is threatened, he will do whatever it takes to protect it. In the case of his sister, when she was younger, he used to speak of how he’d never let her date and he’d protect her from the scum of the world. Although he failed, and felt like he betrayed himself and Fiona, he has put forth more time to protect what he cares for.
Other than being a jock, a bookie, a family guy, and a guardian… Desmond has developed quite a cocky attitude. At times, when his ego is boosted properly, it can be noted that he thinks the world of himself. Being a star quidditch player, a good conversationalist, and being ruggedly handsome, he can’t help but to feel over confident. Not that he acts like this all the time, he sometimes gets into a niche where he can’t help it. After all, who could be humble with all the things he had under his belt and was good at? Not Desmond… all of the time.
One thing though, that Desmond hates about himself, is that he lives his life for the approval of others. Anything he does, whether it be play quidditch or study, he seeks out other people’s approval. Although he likes to think he doesn’t care what people say or think about him, it knocks him down a bit when their impression of him isn’t the best. That being the reason why he strives to be the best at everything he does, he can’t help but feel like a failure if he doesn’t succeed. Although his mother has told him that failure is a part of life, and that he has to accept it, he hasn’t faced the music just yet.

Boggart: Losing his family members, more specifically his twin. Although he is more independent right now, he still is very close with his brother. Losing him would be a serious and life altering experience he could never get over. In class, the boggart showed up as a mutilated decayed version of himself… most didn’t understand or even catch on.
