These are a few simple steps we would like you to follow in the process of applying for Sanctuary. This process will make it that much easier for the admins and for you.
1. Be sure you have read and understand the entire rules section, and if there is any misunderstanding, contact an admin and be sure to clear any and all confusion.
2. Before you decide on a playby, check the Face Claim in the Registry to be sure that it is not already taken. The only way two characters will be permitted the same playby is if they happen to be identical twins.
3. If you're unsure how to go about filling out the application, feel free to browse the ones that have already been accepted. Prime examples are the applications the admins themselves have posted. The application itself will give a minimum number of paragraphs required for certain sections, but we would really like to see all applicants go above and beyond the bare minimum. We's like to see you break your boundaries a bit, push yourself beyond what you would normally do. We love details, we love good storytelling, but keep in mind, too much of a good thing is dangerous as well. We're here to help you find the happy medium.
4. Please be sure to follow all listed guidelines for wands and patronus. We cannot express how frustrating it is when we see ridiculous cores. We have seen many things, ranging from Aerodactyl Fangs to Vampire Venom. And before you ask, yes. Aerodactyl, the Pokemon, and Twilight sparkly vampire venom. We have provided all potential members a list to choose from, please do not deviate. When it comes to the Patronus Charm, please, keep the symbolism accurate and your facts straight. We have done our research, and we know the symbolism behind many of the animals out there, we will be able to spot it if you pull information out of thin air.
5. If you would like to post your application before it is finished, you may do so in the Works in Progress section, that way we can all see what you have so far, and it's fun for everyone if we can see what direction you're taking with a character. If you want to keep everything hush hush, that's always exciting too.
6. It may seem like it isn't a big deal, but we really DO need to know where your character's home is located. We need this so you can have your own Home board. This is where you will be able to describe where your character lives outside of Hogwarts, and this is where some threads could take place over the holidays when characters are on vacation. Do a little research into the towns and various locations, though we will not be accepting students from far away lands. Remember, Hogwarts isn't the only magical school out there, so students wouldn't travel all the way there from ridiculous distances like Russia or Kenya. Keep it Western European please.
7. Once your application is finished, post it in the Finished section. The admins will look it over and hopefully it will be accepted. If we find too many faults with it though, it will be moved to the Declined section, and you will be sent a PM with information on what your mistakes were and how to correct them. You will be given one more chance to fix your application before we reject it outright.
8. Upon acceptance, we will need you to post a 100x100 icon in the Who's Who section and place your playby in the Face Claim. We will also give you your own Housing Description board as well, where you will be able to accurately describe where your character lives. These are put in place just in case any roleplays take place at a character's home over any holidays.
9. If you had not done so already, you will need to pick a 100x100 icon to use as your avatar, and you will also need to find a picture to use as a signature. Now, we are fairly lenient with sizes for these, but we must request that they not be so large that they stretch the page. That gets annoyingly messy, no one likes to scroll sideways to read what you posted. An ideal size is 300x500, but a little bigger than that won't harm any, just remember, no page stretching.
10. Almost done! Next we need you to post a relationship page, and this is where you will post your character's relationships with others. If you would like an in depth relationship with another character, ask the member that created the character, maybe you can figure out something fun. A close friendship, a burning rivalry, anything. Just be sure to get the consent of the member if it's something other than simple acquaintances. We really suggest using the premade relationship/plot pages at Caution unless you're savvy with coding. We like to keep the plot pages pretty.
11. The final step, start threading! You will have two weeks to start threading with your character, if by that time you have not started using said character, you will be PMed a warning to thread. Start an open thread for anyone and everyone to join in, ask around and see if anyone would like to thread, but please DO something with the character. We will not be providing you the opportunity to just make characters and never do anything with them again. If a character is not threaded with at the end of the third week, it will be moved to the Dead Characters board, and will remain there for a week. If still nothing is done with the character, it will be deleted.
